But what I have seen over the last three weeks in Bangkok is much different. When I first went to Ratchadamoen I expected tension and aggression. However, to my surprise, people were jovial, pleasant and kind toward each other but still having that spirit of unity you would expect for a goal of a common good. This movement (shut down Bangkok) has it's own (Thai) uniqueness about it. It is kind of like a modern day Gandhi movement that has been adapted to a hustling 21st Century mega city. They have placed themselves in seven commercial locations (a lot near shopping centres). Their aim is to peacefully disrupt to put pressure on the now caretaker government. And while the protest locations obviously disrupt, they have not shut down major transport systems e.g. sky train, subway, airport, and nearly all the roads in Bangkok are unaffected. The atmosphere is more 'carnival like' rather than grim/serious. At each protest point a stage is erected, along with large digital screens, and a continuous stream of prominent speakers and entertainers enthuse the whistle blowing protesters, who are made up of all walks of life. We are talking about 100s of thousands of people (as opposed to at the most 100 I saw at a red shirt rally in Chiang Mai). A number of people have already been killed or injured, bombs are being thrown (always by a '3rd Hand', which the police 'never ever seem to know from where it comes from'). However, yesterday at Lard Prao (just hours before I was there) the protester security were able to apprehend a man who threw a bomb from his passing van, killing one protester. This murderer had red shirt I.D. on him. Ying Luck (the current Prime Minister and Thaksin's sister, who is backed by the red shirts) is pushing for an early election (2 Feb). The protest movement want serious political system changes before any election. No more of the same corruption is their hope. Many people say it is not so much who will be the next political leader but rather a better process of government needs to be set up with checks and balances to serve the people, not the pockets of a few. The question is can these people, who blow whistles, sing, hold Thai flags and spend days/months on the street bring real lasting positive change to Thailand or will the self-gratifying power hungry crush them? I fear there while be much more bloodshed, especially leading up to Feb 2nd, before we will know the answer to that question. But one thing is for sure, history shows us at times that fortune favors the brave. Kanlaya Thongkamma เมื่อชาวต่างชาตินึกถึงการประท้วง มักจะคิดถึงคนที่หน้าตาเต็มไปด้วยความโกรธ การตะโกนและการใช้ความรุนแรง (การทำลาย) แต่สิ่งที่ผมได้เห็นใน 3 อาทิตย์ที่ผ่านมา ไม่ได้เป็นอย่างนั้นเลย... สถานที่แรกที่ผมได้ไปคือ "ราชดำเนิน" ก่อนจะไป ผมได้เตรียมตัวบ้าง เผื่อจะเจอความเครียดและการรุกรานหรือความรุนแรง...แต่เมื่อได้พบ "กลุ่มผู้ชุมนุม กปปส" ผมตกใจ! เพราะมีแต่คนเรียบร้อย ร่าเริงและใจดี คนกลุ่มนี้เป็นกลุ่มคนที่มีเป้าหมายเดียวกันที่อยากจะเปลี่ยนสภาพสังคมไทยให้ดีขึ้น การเคลื่อนไหวนี้ (การปิดกทมฯ) มีความเป็นหนึ่งเดียวกัน ต่างกับการประท้วงอื่นๆใดในโลก เปรียบเทียบได้กับการประท้วงของ "มหาตมะ คานธี" ซึ่งใช้วิธี สงบ สันติและอหิงสา (มีความอดทนสูงมาก..ผู้แปล) แม้จะต่างยุค ต่างสังคมและต่างเมืองกัน แต่ยังสามารถใช้วิธีเดียวกันได้ พวกเขามีเวทีอยู่ 7 แห่งแต่ละแห่งอยู่ในทำเลที่สำคัญ เป็นแหล่งเศรษฐกิจใจกลางเมืองหลวง เป้าหมายของพวกเค้าคือ อยากสร้างความกดดันให้รัฐบาล(รักษาการณ์) ทำการปฏิรูปก่อนการเลือกตั้ง...ประท้วงอย่างสงบ แม้ว่าการประท้วงจะทำให้เกิดการจราจรติดขัดบ้าง แต่พวกเขาไม่ได้ปิดการจราจรทั้งหมด เช่น BTS,MRT สนามบินและถนนส่วนใหญ่ยังใช้การได้อยู่ บรรยากาศการชุมนุมเหมือนงานเทศกาล เพราะคนไม่มีความเครียด เวทีทุกจุดมีจอโปรเจคเตอร์ขนาดยักษ์ มีนักพูดที่ให้ความรู้เรื่องการปฏิรูป และมีการแสดงต่างๆเพื่อความบันเทิงคลายเครียด เพื่อหนุนใจผู้ประท้วงที่มาจากที่ต่างๆของประเทศ เราพูดถึงคนเป็นแสนเป็นล้านๆ (ซึ่งต่างจากที่ผมเห็นกลุ่มคนเสื้อแดงที่เชียงใหม่ มีผู้ชุมนุมไม่เกิน 100คน ตรงประตูท่าแพ)...กลุ่มกปปส บางคนถูกยิงตาย ถูกขว้างระเบิดตาย และได้รับบาดเจ็บจำนวนมาก (ซึ่งรัฐฯรักษาการณ์ อ้างว่ามาจากมือที่สาม) เมื่อวานนี้ที่ลาดพร้าว (2-3 ชั่วโมงก่อนถึงที่นั่น) การ์ดของ กปปส จับผู้ต้องสงสัยว่าเป็นคนขว้างระเบิดใส่ผู้ชุมนุมจนเสียชีวิต ในตัวของผู้ต้องสงสัยมีบัตรที่แสดงว่าเขาเป็น "สมาชิกกลุ่มคนเสื้อแดง" ยิ่งลักษณ์ (เป็นน้องสาวของ "ทักษิณ" เป็นนายกฯและเป็นผู้อยู่เบื้องหลัง "คนเสื้อแดง") อยากให้มีการเลือกตั้งในวันที่ 2กพ. เร็วๆนี้ แต่กลุ่ม "กปปส" ต้องการให้มีการปฏิรูปก่อนการเลือกตั้ง พวกเค้าหวังว่าจะไม่มีการโกงเหมือนเดิมอีกแล้ว หลายคนพูดว่า ไม่สนว่าใครจะมาเป็นนายกฯ แต่ขอให้ผ่านการปฏิรูปก่อน และมาเป็นผู้รับใช้ประชาชนและประเทศชาติ ไม่ใช่มาเพื่อกอบโกยเงินของประชาชน! คำถามคือ? คนกลุ่มนี้ ที่เป่านกหวีด ร้องเพลง ถือธงชาติ และกินนอนบนถนนมาเป็นเดือนๆ สามารถที่จะสร้างการปฏิรูปถาวร ให้กับประเทศไทยได้ไหม?? หรือว่าคนของรัฐฯและรัฐฯ(รักษาการณ์) จะเหยียบย่ำทำลายพวกเขา และจะทำให้ไม่มีการปฏิรูปที่ดีเกิดขึ้นได้??? ผมสงสัยว่า ก่อนที่พวกเราจะรู้คำตอบนี้ ยังจะมีคนตายเพิ่มมากขึ้น ก่อนจะถึงวันที่ 2 กพ.แน่นนอน!!! #แต่สิ่งที่ผมเรียนรู้จากประวัติศาสตร์คือ ถ้าเราไม่มีความกล้าหาญที่จะเริ่มต้นในวันนี้ พรุ่งนี้จะไม่มีวันเปลี่ยนแปลงที่ดีขึ้นเลย"#!!! #จากฝรั่งรักประเทศไทย
